Spending Spring Break in the Shop

March 21, 2013

Shell Eco-marathon is only a couple of weeks away and we here at the James Madison Solar Car team are excited and ready to make San Antonio proud!

This will be our team’s second time competing in the Shell Eco-marathon, and our anticipation keeps growing as Houston nears. Since we only had a frame made, we spent every day of our spring break in the shop getting the car ready, and you can see the fruits of our labor in the picture above!

We are normally a solar car racing team but since there isn’t a solar category this year we decided to try our hand at a straight battery electric car. This meant that as head of the electrical design, I had to learn how to use new technology well enough to teach the younger members of the team so they wouldn’t blow anything up. So far so good.

As of today we are nearing the completion of our car but that’s just one step in the long process of getting to the Eco-marathon. Stay tuned for more updates from MadSCI and we’ll see you in Houston!
